Dinner

A shish taouk plate from Amir restaurant, sans pita bread, sans garlic sauce, but with hummus.

Lunch

Spicy shrimp with mixed vegetables and wild rice salad. This was very healthy and quite a small portion.

Morning snack

Cafe au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A bowl of Heritage O's and a cafe au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Evening snack

Half a bowl of peanut M&M's, about 3 or 4 decent-sized handfuls I guess.

Dinner

Five squares of that same old pizza. It's definitely lost its excitement for me :)

Lunch, Redux

A Java U hamburger (with a bit of bacon and goat cheese) and about 1/3rd of the portion of fries that came with it. Yes, the hangover munchies came home to roost.

Lunch

4 squares of the same pizza. This is turning into the great pizza weekend.

Breakfast

A delba (German super-bread) slice with about two teaspoonfuls of Valencia peanut butter.

Pre-breakfast

Feeling kind of hung over, I had two Hob Nobs and the rest (maybe 1/4th) of a chocolate biscotti thing my wife had bought at Starbucks.

Saturday, April 28, 2007

A night on the town

We went out with a few friends, to an Italian fusion type restaurant. I had:
  • Salmon tartar with guacamole (fairly large portion for a starter)
  • Braised calves cheeks, a somewhat large portion with tangy sauce
  • About half of a delicious dessert which was a bit over the top

Also an aperitif, a few glasses of wine with dinner, a beer and a rum and coke.

Once we got home, we had more thin crust pizza, I had about half a medium one.

Afternoon snacks

A café au lait, and 1 1/2 Hob Nobs cookies.

Lunch

Five squares of the pizza from yesterday (equivalent to about 1/3rd of a medium pizza).

Morning snack

An "organic health food bar" with nuts and cocoa and mint (190 kcal).

Breakfast

A small bowl of Nature's Path Heritage O's with light soy milk, and a café au lait with 1% milk.

Dinner

Too much of a medium Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza with pepperoni, probably at least 3/4ths if not close to a whole pizza. Also a couple of glasses wine. For dessert I had about half a large chocolate truffle.

Lunch on the plane

Tuna salad with crackers (150 kcal), a sliced apple, and a meatball sandwich on white bread sub.

Friday, April 27, 2007

Breakfast

A bowl of some raisin bran cereal with milk (not sure what kind) and a coffee with a bit of milk.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Dinner

Half a plate of a salad of greens and a corn side dish, lightly dressed, a serving of vegetable medley, and a serving of American kobe beef hand-rubbed with chili - absolutely delicious. I also had some Mascarpone dessert, very small serving.

Buzzzzzzz

I think I've had 2 café au laits today apart from the one at breakfast. Also, I had one of those probiotic drinkable yoghurt things as an afternoon snack.

Lunch

Half a plate of a greens, berries and almond slivers salad tossed super lightly with balsamic and olive oil, plus a small steak, a small portion of a sausage and potato dish, and a small portion of an asparagus side.

Breakfast

A small bowl of something called Good Start, and a café au lait, both 2% milk, plus a small square of dark chocolate (5 grams).

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Dinner

A tossed salad and two tamales with mole. One had lamb, the other mushrooms. Fairly small portion but obviously the mole and tamales are not exactly the healthiest things in the world. I also had about 2/3rds of a very small portion of some weird dessert called forbidden black rice pudding, which was basically a rice pudding with some weird healthy rice.

Lunch

A large healthy salad (greens, beans, strawberries), with some crumbled blue cheese and a little bit of basil oil to dress, plus a shot-glass of gazpacho soup plus three small tapas - a very small serving of tuna sashimi with red onions, a small serving of seared white fish with a marmalade of pearl onions, and a small serving of almond-crusted venison. Followed closely by a café au lait 2% milk.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 2% milk

Breakfast

A very small bowl of the same cereal I had yesterday (I couldn't find
a proper bowl), and a café au lait, both with 2% milk.

Dinner

Half a plate of a lightly dressed spinach and paprika salad, half a "purple potato", three spears of asparagus in a small amount of hollandaise sauce, and a really good duck breast with almonds and spicy sauce.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait, 2% milk, and one of those little probiotic yogurt things you drink.

Lunch

A pork chop with a very small bit of flavored butter, a small bit of cucumber with some vegetarian pate inside it, and a fairly large serving

Morning snack

Café au lait, 2% milk.

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Breakfast

A small bowl of something that looked fibrous and crunchy (some kind of raisin bran) and a café au lait, both with 2% milk. No Lýsi, but plenty of sun.

Monday, April 23, 2007

Dinner

Went to Fukisushi (in Palo Alto I think) with Fabrice and Stephen, where I had about 15 pieces of different kinds of sushi (a couple were tempura things like a dragon roll, and a couple were "spicy" rolls with a bit too much mayo on them), and a little bit of sake.

The coffee here is so good...

I've made myself two café au laits with the awesome Illy coffee they
have here. The milk is reduced fat, I believe that means 2%.

Lunch at the cafeteria

Three small slices of a venison steak, a small serving of asparagus in
some kind of hot sauce, and half a plate of a green, green, yellow and
red salad with a little bit of olive oil and balsamic.

Morning snack on the plane

A tuna salad with 6 crackers (150 kcal total) plus a small apple in
slices (60 kcal).

Breakfast

My regular: A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch plus café au lait 1% milk
plus Krakkalýsi.

Sunday, April 22, 2007

A snack fit for a movie

A bag of SmartPop popcorn, and five Kúlusúkk (small pieces of chocolate-covered liquorice).

An early dinner

About 1 1/2 or 1 3/4ths of some wraps from JavaU, all at least somewhat healthy. Also maybe three handfuls of french fries, also a couple of bites of a chocolate macaroon.

I almost completely lost it and was about to eat a full 2 wraps plus lots of dessert. My wife helped me stop. I should have just left the table earlier, snuck at least a handfuls of french fries after I had officially stopped eating.

A muffin in lieu of lunch

Had a triple-shot café latte from Starbucks plus about one muffin (two different types, both some kind of bran or oatmeal muffin I think).

A snack at lunchtime

Just before my regular lunchtime, I was getting very hungry and with no sight of lunch any time soon, I had about 4 teaspoonfuls of organic Valencia peanut butter on small pieces of flour tortilla.

Breakfast

A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait with 1% milk, plus awful Krakkalýsi.

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Popcorn at the Movies

Had a "small" bag of popcorn, no butter.

An Early Dinner Out

A breast of duck, with stuffing, butternut squash puree, and a cranberry reduction. I had most of the breast, half of the stuffing (1 1/2 small patties), half of the butternut squash and most of the cranberry reduction. This was a bit of a fatty meal but the portion size (after my adjustments to the sides) was fairly small. Drank a glass of red wine with it, and had one slice of bread with olive oil and vinegar before the meal.

Also had about four or five spoonfuls of a chocolate torte in pudding.

Lunch

A green salad, lightly dressed, with a handful of walnuts and a little
bit of fresh goat cheese, plus two veggie burgers, some French
mustard, and Diet Coke to drink. Also a couple of small bites of my
son's cream cheese bagel - he offered and would not take no for an
answer :)

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1%
milk, preceded horribly by a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Friday, April 20, 2007

Dinner

A little more than half an hour before dinner, I had a small handful of walnuts.

Dinner was 1.1 small thin and crisply Domino's pizza, half all
dressed, half chicken/onion/pineapple, and two glasses of red wine.

Lunch

Chicken, artichoke heart, tomato, citrus bulgar and greeen salad, plus
a can of Perrier. Small portion.

Soon after lunch, I had a café au lait, 1% milk, and something like a
1"x2" square of brownies we had at work for a special occasion.

Mid-morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk

Breakfast

A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both 1% milk, and a
horrid little spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Thursday, April 19, 2007

Evening coffee

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Dinner

1.1 whole wheat tortillas topped with marinara sauce, ham, mushrooms,
red peppers, and skim mozzarella cheese, plus 3 strawberries, plus
half a can of beer. I think the portion size was good.

Lunch

Tandoori chicken wrap with coriander yogurt served with green salad.
Portion size was not too big, not too small. Had a can of Perrier to
go with it, and a café au lait 1% milk soon after lunch.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch (yum) and a café au lait, both
with 1% milk, plus a horrid spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Dinner

Half a four egg omelet with tomatoes and skim mozzarella cheese, on
top of a toasted sesame seed bagel, topped with copious amounts of the
great mozzarella sauce my wife made the other day. Had half a can of
beer with the meal.

Lunch

Kafta lamb served with tzatziki and taboulleh salad. This was my day
to learn that kafta lamb looks like something else from a lamb, but
tastes delicious. This was a pretty small serving, although I had
about half of the tzatziki.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk,
and a spoonful of not-so-delicious Krakkalýsi.

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from restaurant Amir (sans pita, sans garlic sauce), and some Diet Coke.

Pre-dinner snack

1/3rd of a conversation piece that accidentally happened along my way. Then half a slice of bread with a teaspoon of organic Valencia peanut butter to tide me over to dinner, and finally a small bite of a rolled up tortilla with cream cheese and ham that my son was having and offered me.

Lunch

A small serving of chicken breast (left-overs of my mother's delicious chicken), a serving of macaroni and cheese, a teaspoonful of cocktail sauce, and two squares of the pepperoni/mushroom/pineapple pizza from the day before yesterday. After lunch I accidentally rammed a small mouthful of a conversation piece (sweet pastry) into my mouth.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and the final spoon of Lýsi.

Monday, April 16, 2007

Dinner

My mother made her famous chicken. I had one skinless chicken breast
(just the breast, not the humongous thing you get from e.g. St.
Hubert), one drumstick, a portion of macaroni and cheese, one potato,
about two teaspoonfuls of cocktail sauce, and a glass of white wine.

Afternoon snack

My son wanted to give me half of his ginger snap cookie. I couldn't refuse.

Lunch

Chicken club wrap - bacon, tomato, garlic aioli served with green
salad. Not sure why I got this, as I ordered the asian salmon burger
with sesame seeds and pickles served with green salad, but probably
fine as it wasn't too juicy.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk,
against a backdrop of Lýsi.

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Humongous Pig-Out

My only excuse is I was really hung over:
  • Half a bag of Nóa Lakkrískúlur and a few Kúlusúkk (both little balls of chocolate with either toffee or liquorice)
  • Something like 3 scoops of Heavenly Hash ice cream
  • Something like 1/3rd of a Freyju Draumur (liquorice and chocolate bar)
  • Diet Coke

Dinner

About half a large Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza, half with
pepperoni, mushrooms and pineapple, the other half with chicken,
onions and pineapple. Had a large glass of wine with it and had a
sneaky chocolate (one piece of Linda confectionary) after dinner.

Breakfast at 5 PM

10 or 12 chocolate truffles, and a café au lait with 1% milk.

A night on the town

My wife and I hit a comedy club and then a nightclub. As a late dinner, I had:
- 3/4ths of a small thin crust pizza with goat's cheese
- Maybe 1/3rd of an average serving of nachos supreme

At the end of the evening, I had a blackened breast of chicken with a few small pieces of fried plantain and a green salad.

Apart from the above, a bunch of drinks - beer, Bailey's, and Cuba Libres.

Afternoon/evening snack

Two small handfuls of nuts and seeds and a couple of slices of lemon.

Saturday, April 14, 2007

Lunch

Half a tomato, two squares (out of 16) of a medium Domino's thin and crispy all dressed pizza, half a slice of that same dense German linseed bread with a slice of Jarlsberg cheese, another half slice with organic Valencia peanut butter, and a Silhouette yogurt. Drank Coke Zero with the meal.

A late breakfast (the wonders of sleeping in)

1/4th of a carrot nut muffin, 1/4th of a conversation piece, one ginger snap (tiny cookie) and half a slice of linseed bread with organic Valencia peanut butter. With it I had a café au lait with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Friday, April 13, 2007

Dinner

I took my mother out for Indian food at Mysore restaurant. I had:
  • Some papadum to start.
  • Shahi Rejala, a beef dish in a sweet and sour sauce; I had most of my serving which was probably a bit much.
  • Methi Aloo, a potato curry; I had a large spoonful just to taste.
  • Mixed vegetable bhaji; again just a large spoonful to taste.
  • Palao rice, an average serving.
  • A little bit of Naan, perhaps equivalent to a slice of bread.
  • A teaspoonful of mango chutney.
  • A small square of dessert similar to prasat, made of coconut, pistachios and Indian cream.
I drank water and Diet Coke with the meal. All in all a pretty big one, enough that after the meal I ate a bit much but not so that I'm overstuffed.

The food was very good, the service not so.

Late afternoon snack

The rest of the aforementioned muffin. Unfortunately, web-based evidence indicates the muffin may have been up to about 500 kcal in total. Argh. Bad, bad delicious irresistible muffin.

Lunch

Had another a café au lait, 1% milk, just before lunch. Feeling the buzz!

Lunch consisted of some seared filet of beef in rice paper wraps with tropical fruit chutney and greens served with sesame noodles and julienne of vegetables, plus a can of Perrier. Quite delicious, so much better than yesterday's salty chewy fish.

Mid-morning snack

A Grande skim latté, extra shot, and about 1/4th of a sesame pumpkin seed muffin from Starbucks.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk. A bit later in the morning I had a lovely solitary spoonful of Lýsi. My older son had one too, and at first he said he didn't like it but a bit later he said he did and wanted it again tomorrow. Breakthrough!

Thursday, April 12, 2007

Dinner

2 1/2 meatballs, with marinara sauce, whole wheat spaghetti and some shaved parmesan.

Lunch

Miso soup with chicken breast, vegetables and egg noodles, and some Diet Pepsi. The portion was somewhat large but I don't feel stuffed after having it so probably OK.

Mid-morning snack

A café au lait, 1% milk, and a "Middle Aged Crazy Pill" my colleague gave me (a very tiny candy, the size of a small pill).

Breakfast

A portion of oatmeal with 2/3rds of a banana, and a café au lait, both with dreaded full-fat biological 3.8% milk because we were out of 1% (I used less than normal for the coffee and just a tiny bit for the porridge). To offset the healthful disadvantages of the milk, I had some Lýsi magic potion.

I have to be careful

It's 10:30 and I just wrote all the entries for the diary for today, having forgotten to write them during the day like I'm supposed to. So there may be small inaccuracies but overall I think I got it all down. I need to be careful not to get complacent and stop writing in the diary.

I also had a close encounter with some chocolate truffles today, went as far as opening the box a little bit. It's hard for me because a lot of the left-over chocolate from Easter is still in plain view when I walk around the house, I'll need to move it into closed cupboards or get my wife to eat it or something :)

Finally, I've noticed that in the last few days I've had a few incidents of mindless eating, where I e.g. eat little bits of the food I'm preparing for my sons. These little transgressions have not all made their way into the food diary, and I'm worried about them because this type of thing is exactly what I'm trying to train myself not to do by using the food diary. I'll need to be more religious about recording everything in the diary, and to think before I grab something whether eating it is really worth having to remember to write it down.

Dinner

4 1/2 really delicious non-meat meatballs on whole-wheat spaghetti topped with very tasty marinara sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, served with a lightly dressed green salad. I had about half a glass of red wine to go with the meal.

Lunch

Miso glazed haddock on bok choy and bulgar salad, and a Diet Pepsi. This is only the second time I've had something from our caterer that really wasn't good - the haddock was salty and chewy, which can be nice for beef jerky but not for fish.

Right after lunch, I had a café au lait with 1% milk.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, deliciously offset by smooth and oily Lýsi.

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Dinner

1/4th of an omelette made of 6 eggs and about 1 1/2 egg whites, with tomatoes and shredded cheese, topped with some cranberry/mango salsa. Half a serving or so of the Indian chicken in cream sauce curry my wife made for Easter. Finally, 1/4th of a carrot muffin. Drank Diet Coke with it. Probably could have done without that piece of muffin.

Whoops!

It's dinner time but no dinner yet. I was just checking to see what our neighbor had brought us over for Easter, and it turned out to be a box of very delicious-looking chocolate truffles. I "decided" to try "just one" and ended up having five plus a small piece of milk chocolate from a separate source. So big whoops. I've asked my wife to move all of the chocolate that's left over from Easter so that I won't be tripping over it at every turn, hopefully that will help.

Lunch

Just before lunch, I had a café au lait, 1% milk.

Lunch was a salmon fillet with mango salsa, with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, at the restaurant in my building's lobby. Serving was fairly small but there was probably a fair bit of butter in the dish. Washed down with a bit of sparkling water.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, chasing a honey golden spoon of Lýsi.

Monday, April 9, 2007

Dinner

A baked sweet potato with a bit of taco cheese, some salsa, some black beans, and sour cream, with a lightly dressed salad, a few (like 5) multi-grain tostitos, and about a spoonful of guacamole. Washed it down with about half a glass of white wine.

Lunch

Yes, I had no breakfast today except for a can of Diet Coke (woke up pretty late, then headed straight for the mall).

For lunch, I had a teriyaki chicken/beef combo (a serving of white rice, vegetables, beef and chicken, with teriyaki sauce, supposedly quite healthy), with a can of Diet Coke.

Delicious Easter Horror

Let's just pretend today was some kind of time anomaly and actually happened before I started on a diet, and keep going as if it never happened. I had multiple helpings of delicious Indian things my wife made, wine, beer, chocolate and very good conversation with our many guests.

Sunday, April 8, 2007

Easter Gorging

Two easter eggs, sizes 2 and 3. Got that "Easter Feeling".

Lunch

Two tomatoes, 9 strawberries, one banana, 1/4th of a carrot muffin, and 1/4th of a conversation piece, with a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and 10 ml of that golden liquid Lýsi.

Saturday, April 7, 2007

Dinner

Half of a large Domino's thin and crispy all dressed pizza, plus a couple of bites of cheesy bread, something like 1000 kcal altogether, and a glass of red wine.

Pre-dinner snack

One fourth of yesterday's evil cinnamon pastries.

Lunch

One scrambled egg, one tomato, six strawberries, a stick of aged cheddar, and the rinds of two slices of bread that my son got the centers of (approximately equivalent to one slice altogether), with a can of Diet Coke.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, contrasted against the crisp backdrop of a spoonful of Lýsi.

Friday, April 6, 2007

Dinner

Half a chicken breast with cheese and red peppers from Pret a Manger, one third of a baked potato from same, a portion of bean salad from same, and a tiny bit of the stir-fry my wife made a couple of days ago. One glass of white wine to wash it down, and a can of Diet Coke soon after dinner.

Oh the shame

I had two (in total - one whole and one in pieces) of the little cinnamon pastry thingies I bought "for my mother" when I went to the store. They're small but horrible, 190 kcal total per the packaging.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait with 1% milk, and a square of 86% chocolate (10g).

Lunch

Leftovers from the Indian meal yesterday, basically the same stuff, a bit smaller portion, no Naan, no beer. Drank a Diet Coke with it. Also had a bite of a pastry my mother gave my older one, and a couple of slices of banana.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean (not Crunch) and a café au lait, both with 1% milk. Enhanced with the flavorful aroma of Lýsi.

Thursday, April 5, 2007

Dinner

Indian food from Maison de Cari. I had a small serving of each of:
  • Pathia Shrimps (#41)
  • Sag aloo bhaji (#83)
  • Aloo gobi (#110)
  • Peas palao (#72)
and a tiny bit of Nan. Altogether it did not fill up my plate, I think the serving was about right and the dishes were not of the creamy kind.

In addition, I had a Stella Artois (330 ml). This was probably a bit over the top. Back on the horse tomorrow.

Lunch

Went to Kaizen with my sister. I had three small pieces of Tempura, then 16 pieces of Sushi and "new style" Sashimi; the latter was really super delicious - semi-marinated with ginger, roe and mint leaf or something like that. After that, a couple of spoonfuls of green tea ice cream. Washed it all down with Perrier. A really great meal.

Breakfast

A very small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and some Lýsi to take away the taste (or was that the other way around?).

Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Evening snack

I had a couple of forkfuls of a delicious stirfry dish my wife made for my sister, who is visiting.

Dinner

Two large chili/garlic prawns, 1/4th of a large turkey burger, a portion of boiled vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, red peppers), and a portion of fried rice, all from Pret a Manger, plus a can of Diet Coke.

Lunch

Seared scallops wrapped in proscuitto served with sweet pea and mint puree and asparagus, and a Perrier. Small portion.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait (both 1% milk) plus a spoonful of Lýsi to make it all go down in the most delightful way.

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from Amir, minus the pita, minus garlic sauce, with a can of Diet Coke.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait, 1% milk, and a single square of 70% chocolate (about 5 grams).

Lunch

Roasted tilapia, coriander and charred tomato sandwich on baguette with arugula salad, with a Diet Pepsi.

Monday, April 2, 2007

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Sunday, April 1, 2007

A late dinner

Half of a large thin and crispy crust Domino's pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and pineapple, and a glass of red wine. That half a pizza was approximately 950 kcal according to Domino's nutritional information, so I guess I went a little overboard. Back on the horse tomorrow.

Afternoon snack and a reason for excuses

A café au lait at the playground, followed a couple of hours later by something like half a cheese stick, a couple of mouthfuls of an almond pastry (whoops) and a couple of bites of my son's cream-cheese tortilla (whoops). Since I was still having cravings I decided to have half a banana and a couple of teaspoons of peanut butter, and that hit the spot. It was actually my regular dinner time when I had these (waiting for my wife to get back from an appointment), so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Lunch

Family trip to IKEA. I had 10 Swedish meatballs, 1 1/2 potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberry sauce, plus three spoonfuls of a blueberry pie, with Diet Pepsi on the side.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi Golean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, prefixed by a delicious spoonful of Lýsi. A major breakthrough this morning: My older son tried Lýsi and said he liked it.
