about 1/4th of a chocolate croissant.

At the office, as our coffee machine is broken, I had a mocha

put banana in my coffee.

Brunch and Lunch: My wife bought four or five different pastries; I
had about 2/3rds or 3/4ths of these through brunch and lunch.

anything" logic, I had a slice of birthday cake, two small scoops of
frozen yogurt, and a few raspberries.

from Domino's, plus a glass and a half of wine, and a can of beer.

Afternoon snack: A handful of dried fruit and nuts.

M&Ms. I'm a bad boy and deserve to be punished.

Tuesday dinner through today morning

Tuesday dinner: About 15 pieces of various sushi (mostly maki).

Wednesday:
Breakfast: A bowl of Optimum Power with 1% milk, plus a couple of
bites of what my boys were having.
Lunch: A three-egg frittata with ham, and a green salad with a little
dressing. My brother-in-law joined me for lunch at work, and his
smoked salmon pasta looked much better than my styrofoam frittata.
Afternoon snack: Sweet'n'salty bar.
Afternoon binge: I went home early because I was sick. Operating on
the ubiquitous logic "I'm sick so I can have ice cream", I had half a
mini-tub of Liberté vanilla frozen yogurt, a slice and a half of
yesterday's cake, and maybe 10 pita chips with spinach dip.
Dinner: My wife's famous peppercorn filet mignon steak, with
Bearnaise sauce, broccoli, corn and french fries, plus a glass and a
half of red wine. For dessert, probably half a slice of yesterday's

Lunch: My wife's (family) birthday party; I had a small slice of
Framboise Royale cake (very decadent chocolate cake), about 2/3rds of
a croissant aux amandes, one-fourth of a carrot muffin, and something
like three buns out of a bun-type-bread thing with raisins (very white
bread) with spread and cheese.

Dinner and hangover

Dinner was a sandwich of Italian cold cuts, goat cheese and olive
tapenade on baguette served with salad and just a touch of dressing.

Late tonight I had THREE (yes count them) Caramel Thick chocolate
bars. The hangover made me do it!!

Lunch & afternoon

Lunch was tilapia with green onions and ginger served with vegetables
and rice (left some of the rice, making this a small-to-medium-sized
portion).

For an afternoon snack, I had half a (fairly small) chicken salad sandwich.

Dinner & its consequences

Dinner last night was my wife's delicious pesto chicken, with grilled
eggplant and garlic bread. Two helpings. With quite a few glasses of
wine. Followed by a couple of beers and drinks.

Breakfast this morning was a sweet'n'salty bar and half a hot dog bun
with spread. Yes I know.

Second breakfast was a Bacon McMuffin. Sometimes you just have to go
for the good stuff.

Elevensies was nothing, but would have been funny.

So far, so good

I was very good yesterday, I get a star! That brings me up to five

Today has been pretty good so far:

than a teaspoonful of dressing).

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

100% freshly baked.
Appetizer: Mosaic of foie gras, duck breast and prosciutto with figs,

Main course: Veal fillet with broad beans and roasted potatoes, and a
glass of red wine. This was good, kind of salty and rustic.

instead of whisky).

After dinner, I had a Long Island Iced Tea at a club nearby.

Candy-filled meals

My "proper" dinner yesterday was a serving of couscous and a small
serving of a vegetarian eggplant dish, plus an eggroll with spread and
cheese, plus (wait for it) HUGE AMOUNTS OF HORRIBLE CANDY CAKE (I
don't know, maybe 5-6 pieces). Yuck yuck yuck.

Today's breakfast was a small bowl of Flax Plus
too-good-to-actually-be-healthy cereal with 1% milk, a cafe au lait
and 3 SQUARES OF HORRIBLE CANDY CAKE. I'm hoping by the time I come
home from work today it will have disappeared.

Monday, August 20, 2007

Pseudo-Dinner

A bottle of orange juice (120 kcal) and an Oatmeal-to-Go bar (200 kcal).

Mind the gap

A little explanation of the 10-day gap: New York trip, ate lots of
great food, gained maybe 2 kilos, then felt like I couldn't make
entries in the food diary until I caught up writing about the trip.
Forget that, wiping the slate clean now and starting from this
morning.

TODAY
Breakfast: 2 squares of some horribly decadent
almond/chocolate/toffee/cookie cake thing, and a bowl of Flax Plus
yummystuff with 1% milk.
Morning snack: Coffee/2%/10%

followed by a shot of espresso and 10g of dark chocolate.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

quite healthy.

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Breakstress and lunch

I was ever-so-slightly stressed at breakfast (our roof is leaking) and
unfortunately I turned to my favorite stress buddy, condensed empty
calories. I had a whole-wheat egg roll with peanut butter and
strawberry jam, a ball of ice cream (yes I know) and two Swiss
chocolates (yes I know - it's not even lunch yet).

Lunch was a lot better: A medium-sized serving of gumbo with
whole-grain rice, and a banana.

Monday, August 6, 2007

Afternoon snack and Dinner

Afternoon snack: Sweet'n'salty bar; I'm getting ever so slightly
tired of these.

Dinner: A Shish Taouk plate with hummus, sans garlic sauce, sans pita.

By golly, I think I deserve a point. Total points: 4.

An easy-going weekend

FRIDAY

Lunch: Chicken, avocado and cheddar sandwich served with green salad.
Fairly small serving.

Afternoon snack: Sweet'n'salty bar.

Dinner: My wife and I shared a charcuterie platter, and I had a small portion of chili nachos. I had two pints of lager with dinner.

several handfuls of Nóa Kropp.

SATURDAY

Breakfast: A bowl of Optimum Zen, IIRC.

Lunch: A couple of whole-wheat baguette sandwiches with ham, cheese,
tomatoes, mustard and low-fat mayonnaise, plus small servings of (a
healthy) potato salad and a Greek salad. Also a small square of two
different dessert cakes.

Dinner: We were invited for a barbecue, where I had a lot of food and
several cocktails, wine etc.

Evening: A couple of handfuls of Nóa Kropp.

SUNDAY

Breakfast: A bowl of Optimum Zen and a cafe au lait, both with 1%
milk. Also a couple of bites of my son's bread with peanut butter.

Lunch: Same as Saturday's, except just one baguette sandwich, and
with an additional half a whole-wheat Kaiser roll with peanut butter
and banana.

Dinner: About 2/3rds of a medium thin and crispy pepperoni pizza from
Domino's, and half a bottle of red wine.

Obviously, no points for the weekend. Total points so far: 3.

TODAY

Breakfast: A bowl of Optimum Zen and a cafe au lait with 1% milk,
plus maybe half a slice of bread with peanut butter.

Lunch: Half a portion of a chicken salad sandwich, along with a
calabrese tuna salad with olives, hot peppers, capers, red peppers and
greens. I used about two teaspoonfuls of dressing. All in all this
was about a medium-sized meal.

Fairly Good: The revenge of the Nachos

Yesterday:
Dinner: Salmon with chermoula sauce (same as Tuesday's); pretty healthy.
Nachos: Once I got home I was quite hungry and had a small serving of
my wife's delicious Nachos, as well as two spoonfuls of the apricot
strudel thing, so no point for yesterday. Total points: 3.

Today:
Breakfast: A bowl of Nature's Path multi-grain corn flakes and a cafe
au lait, both with 1% milk.
Morning snack: Coffee/2%/10%.

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Call me Mr. Sneaky

Sneaky part: Before dinner yesterday I had two handfuls of Nóa Kropp
that just accidentally fell into my hand at which point I had a reflex
that just sort of threw the candy into my mouth. Not.

Yesterday's dinner was a hefty portion of my wife's amazing chili
nachos, and a beer and a half. No point for yesterday... Total
points: 3.

And now for today:

Breakfast: An egg roll with spread and cheese, plus half a bowl of
Nature's Path multi-grain corn flakes with 1% milk.

Lunch: Greek salad with a pork brochette - a fairly small portion.

Afternoon snack: Sweet'n'salty bar and a Diet Pepsi.

Wednesday, August 1, 2007

I did a bad bad thing...

Yesterday's dinner: A somewhat large serving of my wife's chicken
curry and rice, from the other day, with a slice of buttered bread.

Before dinner, though, was the bad bad thing: I had several Freyju
Bombur huge big chocolate things, and some Nóa Kropp. So after dinner
the only sensible thing to do was to have even more candy, ended up
having quite a lot. No star for yesterday, that's for sure.

Breakfast (today): A bowl of Heritage O's.

Lunch: Roast leg of lamb with babaganoush and dried fruit couscous.
This was a medium-sized portion.

Afternoon snack: A sweet'n'salty bar.

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Dusk 'till dusk, pretty much

Yesterday's dinner: A Shish Taouk plate, with hummus but no garlic
sauce or pita.

I dare say I get a point for yesterday! Total points: 3.

Breakfast: A bowl of Heritage O's. After breakfast I had a handful
or more of Nóa Kropp, completely by accident :( There goes my point
for today.

Lunch: Salmon with chermoula sauce, wild rice pilaf and green beans.
This was a fairly small serving, and seemed quite healthy (the sauce
was basically mashed spices or some such). Lunch was followed by a
coffee/2%/10%.

Afternoon snack: A sweet'n'salty bar and a small bottle of orange juice.

Monday, July 30, 2007

From dawn till dusk (almost)

Breakfast: A bowl of Heritage O's with 1% milk.

Morning snack: Coffee with 1 vial of 10% cream, 1 vial of 2% milk.

Lunch: Roast chicken breast with tomato and couscous salad (small
serving) followed by coffe/2%/10%.

Afternoon snack: Sweet'n'salty bar.

Sunday of the Devil

There's not much point in listing everything I ate yesterday, since it
was basically a fairly black spot on my diet record :) but here goes,
from memory:

Breakfast: Already listed.

Lunch: Five squares of the pizza from the day before, and about 6
balls of Nóa Kropp (tiny chocolate balls).

Afternoon snack: Not sure, but there was something and I don't think
it was healthy.

Dinner: A little more than two huge helpings of my wife's amazing
mango chutney/pineapple curry chicken, rice and decadent garlic bread,
a couple of glasses of wine, a beer, and several pieces of See's
chocolate.

No star for today :) Total points: 2

Sunday, July 29, 2007

Breakfast

Lots of almost soda-free Diet Coke, and two sweet'n'salty thingambobs.

Yesterday was Saturday

I bicycled to and from work on Friday and I decree that my eating was
disciplined enough to earn another point. Total points: 2

Breakfast: Café au lait 1% milk, Optimum Power with 1% milk, and a
spoonful of Lýsi.

Lunch: I took my son to the zoo, where I had two very small hot-dogs
with ketchup and a little bit of mayonnaise, and some potato chips.

Afternoon snack: Two squares of yesterday's pizza.

Dinner: Shared a charcuterie platter followed by a seafood platter
with my wife, plus a couple of desserts (bread pudding with ice cream
and creme brulée) and a cappuccino. Also three pints of beer.

Midnight snack: I had another couple of beers while watching the
fireworks, and one and a half fairly large hot-dogs on our way home
(with mustard, ketchup and relish).

Friday, July 27, 2007

Dinner

Half a thin crust Domino's pizza with pepperoni and veggies, a few
bites of cheesy bread (maybe half a stick) and two and a half glasses
of red wine.

Lunch and afternoon

Lunch: Wrap with cajun beef, caramelized onions and blue cheese served
with tomato salad (yes, tonight will be stinky-breath night). This
was a fairly small portion, no dressing to speak of on the salad.

Afternoon snack: I had a coffee with 1 vial of 10% cream and 1 vial
of 2% milk. Later (just now in fact) I had a Diet Pepsi and a
sweet'n'salty snack bar.

Breakfast, bicycling, and my first point!

I forgot to mention yesterday that I bicycled to and from the office
for the first time ever. It's about 15-20 minutes each way, and it's
convenient that the ride to the office is mostly downhill so I don't
sweat much, but then on the ride home I can exert myself a bit.

Also, I deem myself good enough yesterday to deserve my first point,
so 1 point total.

Breakfast this morning was a bowl of Optimum Power with a handful of
blueberries and 1% milk, a cafe au lait with 1% milk and a spoonful of
Lýsi.

I'm really waiting for lunch now, getting quite hungry.

Thursday, July 26, 2007

Evening update

Afternoon snack: Coffee with two vials of 10% cream.

Dinner: A small portion of the chicken dish my wife made for our
boys, and a medium-sized portion of turkey casserole.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast: A bowl of 50/50 Kashi GoLean Crunch and Multi-grain
Cheerios with 1% milk, a café au lait with 1% milk, a spoonful of
Lýsi, and a small pancake with 2 strawberries and half a teaspoon of
sugar.

Lunch: Cobb salad with chicken, a little bit of bacon, a little bit
of cheese, plus veggies, with about a teaspoonful of dressing. After
lunch I had a coffee with two vials of 10% cream.

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

Dinner

Two servings of a really delicious turkey soup my wife made in the
slow cooker, and quite a few slices of whole wheat baguette with
butter to go with it. Also had a glass of rosé.

After dinner I had one pancake with sugar and half of three pieces of
See's chocolate.

No point for today for obvious reasons. Total points: 0.

Between breakfast and dinner...

In the mid-morning I had a coffee with some 10% cream.

Lunch was a salmon filet with ginger and scallions served with white rice.

For an afternoon snack I had another coffee with 10% cream, a
sweet'n'salty snack bar and a 5g square of dark chocolate.

Breakfast

Kashi GoLean Crunch with a handful of blueberries and 1% milk, a café
au lait 1% milk and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

A pretty good day

Breakfast: A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch with a handful of
blueberries and 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Lunch: Some delicious buffalo chicken wings, a bit of a chicken
caesar panini, some salad, potatoes and tortilla chips, in the park,
with my wife. A somewhat large meal but not huge.

Afternoon snack: A sweet'n'salty thingamajig snack bar.

Dinner: About 16 pieces of sushi, several of which were quite juicy
rolls including 3 deep-fried rolls. Also about half a can of beer and
3 shots of sake.

No point awarded for today due to the beer, the large lunch, and the
juicy rolls. Point total is zero.

Monday, July 23, 2007

Dinner

This was a bit of a big dinner, but not too horrible (in comparison
with what would have happened without the food diary). Here goes:
- a mouthful of a Danish ring
- a couple of handfuls of blueberries
- about 9 meatballs and a very small serving of white rice, with salsa
and then with lingonberry jam
- about 1 finger of cheesy bread
- another small mouthful of the Danish ring

A little after dinner, I had a little more than a can of Heineken.

No points awarded for today due to the evil dinner and the beer. Points total: 0

Afternoon snack

A sweet'n'salty bar thing.

Lunch

Shrimp and avocado wrap with roasted cubanel peppers served with green
salad. This was a fairly small portion but there was some juicy sauce
I think. After lunch I had a coffee with a bit of 10% cream.

Breakfast

A bowl of Optimum Power cereal with a couple of handfuls of
blueberries and 1% milk, a spoonful of Lýsi and a café au lait 1%
milk.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Afternoon snack

A sweet'n'salty peanut thingie, and a Diet Coke (had another canister
of the deadly substance a bit earlier this afternoon, and one with
lunch too).

Lunch

15 pieces of Sushi (mostly Maki), and some pickled vegetable salad thingie.

Breakfast

Two slices of toast with Becel, cheese and jam, 10 little heart-shaped
cookie things (140 kcal) and a cafe au lait 1% milk. I was just too
bored with my normal breakfast.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Chocolate Evening

Several handfuls of peanut M&Ms, and a few squares of Lindt milk chocolate. Dieting is hell.

Dinner

Spicy shrimp salad sandwich on parisien bread with bacon, lettuce and
tomato served with potato salad.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait 1% milk, a sweet'n'salty peanut bar, and one small square
(5g) of dark chocolate.

Lunch

A small portion of chicken breast, with a Tuscan bread salad. Very
delicious, a bit olive-oily, but not too bad in terms of healthiness I
think.

Breakfast

Standard breakfast (Kashi GoLean Crunch).

Dinner

About 15 pieces of sushi, mostly rolls, and a Corona.

Afternoon snack

An espresso and a sweet'n'salty peanut bar.

Sunday, June 24, 2007

After dinner, I had a couple of handfuls of peanut M&Ms and two and a half pieces of See's chocolate.

Lunch

3/4ths of a personal-size Mike's pizza with steak, mushrooms and fried
onions, and 1/4th of a personal-size seafood pizza, plus a few fries
and a Corona.

Morning snack

4 squares of a medium thin crust pepperoni pizza.

Breakfast

Standard breakfast with Kashi GoLean Crunch.

A black hole

The metaphor fits well, both in terms of forgetfulness and in terms of
a black hole sucking everything into it. Basically Friday night and
all of Saturday were like a visit to a Roman vomitarium, compared to
my normal monkish ways.

Friday, June 22, 2007

Dinner

Shish taouk plate, minus pita, minus garlic sauce, but with hummus.

Lunch

Pork filet served au jus with spring vegetables and orzo pasta. Not a
very large serving, but the orzo pasta was quite juicy. After lunch I
had an espresso and 10g of dark chocolate (two small squares).

Breakfast

A cafe au lait and a bowl of Optimum Power, both 1% milk, and half a
carrot nut muffin.

Thursday, June 21, 2007

A pear.

Lunch

Salmon fillet roasted and served with cold wild rice and vegetable salad.

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Dinner

Some snacking while I fed my boys: Four or five bagel crisps, one
meat ravioli thing.

Dinner was a small bowl of gazpacho soup, and an organic bean burrito.

For dessert (whoops) I had three chocolate pieces, two cream pastries,
and a few M&Ms. Hmmmmmm.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait 1% milk and a crispy crunchy peanut butter bar thing (230 kcal).

Lunch

Mediterranean chicken salad with artichoke hearts, tomato and olives.
For dessert I had a pear.

Breakfast

Standard breakfast, Kashi GoLean Crunch.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Dinner

Not exactly what I intended:
- 1 whole chocolate croissant that I had bought for my wife
- 1 two-bite brownie
- Several pieces of meat ravioli in meat sauce
- A couple of bites of the chicken breast and salad that I bought
myself for dinner but which turned out to be horrible

DOH! Willpower is not exactly my strong suit these days.

Lunch

Smoked chicken wrap in whole wheat tortilla, plus a green salad. Very
healthy. Had a kiwi for dessert, and then a café au lait 1%.

Breakfast

A bowl of Optimum Power cereal with 1% milk, no coffee because we were
out, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Monday, June 18, 2007

A light dinner

A vegetarian burrito (280 kcal). Also before dinner I had a couple of small nibbles of my sons' dinner, but next to nothing.

Afternoon snack or maybe an early dinner

Goat cheese and walnut salad, a small portion with no dressing. Goat
cheese overload today!

Lunch

A warm goat cheese salad with some form of dressing and a few fries
from the side dish.

Breakfast

A café au lait 2% milk, the crust of two slices of bread, with a tiny
bit of cheese, plus about half of the inside of a slice of bread with
cheese, and a small yogurt.

Weekend of oblivion

I totally forgot the food diary this weekend, and now I don't remember
everything I ate. Suffice it to say it was not a healthy weekend:
Non-trivial amounts of beer were consumed, quite a bit of pizza, some
candy, etc. etc. I'll try to do better.

Friday, June 15, 2007

Breakfast

WARNING! WARNING! ALERT! ALERT! Morning willpower looks like it is
not my strong suit; I had my usual breakfast with a mixture of
Heritage Os and Optimum Zen, but I "accidentally" also had another
chocolate-coconut thing and half a slice of the sugarless cake thing.

A bit later, we celebrated our sons' nanny's birthday, and I had
another café au lait 1% milk and a fairly small slice of strawberry
tort.

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Dinner

About 1/3rd of a chicken breast florentine, about 1/3rd of a baked
potato, and a small serving of spaghetti bolognese. For dessert I had
two slices of the sugar-free poundcake my wife bought.

Lunch

Salmon burger with a green salad and light vinaigrette. This was a
pretty healthy meal. Followed up by a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

One chocolate coconut ball thing, followed by my usual breakfast with
Heritage O's.

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Dinner

Before dinner (ahemm - gotta stop this) I had two slices of some
sugar-free poundcake my wife bought, and a couple of mouthfuls of
stuff my sons were eating.

Dinner was one quarter chicken breast florentine, one quarter chicken
breast with cheese and red peppers, and half a baked potato, with a
can of Heineken to wash it all down.

Afternoon snacks

A café au lait 1% milk, followed a while later by a Nature Valley
crunch peanut butter bar (~200 kcal) and a Diet Pepsi.

Lunch

13 pieces of Sushi (mostly rolls) and a bit of some lightly dressed
papaya salad.

Breakfast

Cafe au lait 1% milk, Heritage O's with whole milk (1% was out), and a
teaspoonful of Lýsi.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Dinner

Pre-dinner I had a few bits of a few things my boys were having; one
was the crust of one slice of bread with a little bit of Becel,
another was a couple of spoonfuls of rice and ham.

For dinner I had a shish taouk plate from Amir restaurant, sans pita
bread, sans garlic sauce, but with hummus, and a 33cl can of beer.

Afternoon snack

A sweet'n'salty bar plus a Diet Pepsi.

Lunch

Marinated roast vegetables with roasted chicken tenders on greens.
Very healthy, good size dressing. Followed by a cafe au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

A cafe au lait with 1% milk, a bowl of Optimum Zen with whole milk
(out of the good stuff), and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Monday, June 11, 2007

Dinner

A bit before dinner I had a small slice of the orange cake from the birthday party this morning, and one peanut butter M&M. I also had something like a pint (or maybe a bit less) of Corona beer.

Dinner was a bowl of Heritage O's with 1% milk, followed by a fairly small slice of the decadent chocolate cake from the birthday party.

Afternoon snack

A sweet'n'salty thing, and a can of Diet Pepsi.

Lunch

A somewhat large serving of Pad Thai.

Birthday Party!

My younger son is 1 year old today so we had some cakes and stuff. I
had a medium-sized slice of a very decadent chocolate cake, and half a
slice of an orange loaf.

Breakfast

My usual: Café au lait and Optimum Zen cereal, both with 1% milk, and
a spoonful of Lýsi.

Sunday, June 10, 2007

A very hung-over day

Some time in the afternoon, I had one and a half egg rolls with Becel and cheese, and a glass of milk.

For dinner, I had 2/3rds or 3/4ths of a medium sized Domino's thin-crust pizza.

At some point I also had a beer and a glass of rosé - hair of the dog that bit you, so to speak.

Saturday, June 9, 2007

Dinner and too many drinks

We were invited to a barbecue at our neighbours' house. Lots of food, lots and lots of drinks, so all in all not a great day for dieting.

Afternoon snack

A slice of an Oakrun nut ring or whatever it's called, plus a couple of small brittle cookies, plus a few peanut butter M&Ms.

A Birthday Party!

I took the boys to their friends' birthday party, where I had:
- a slice of baguette bread with some olive salsa on it
- a couple of small bits of cheese and a cracker
- a small serving of oven-baked salmon with saffron rice and some asparagus
- two or three cookies
- half a beer

Breakfast

A 2"x1" square of that same cheesecake brownie (whoops) plus my usual breakfast with Kashi GoLean Crunch.

Friday, June 8, 2007

Evening snack

A 2"x3" square of some fairly decadent cheesecake brownie, and half a bar of Lakkríssúkkulaði.

Dinner

A pepper-crusted salmon steak, a spinach salad lightly dressed, and some delicioius sauteed and oven-baked asparagus. A fairly large but very healthy serving, with a couple of glasses of rosé. I also had a couple of bits of my son's toast with cream cheese. Ahemm.

TGIF

Two lagers at our first-ever TGIF at work (well, Siggi maintains there
was another back in November but I have no proof of that)...

Lunch

Roast duck wrap with sprouts, hoisin, cucumber served with green salad
with a teaspoon or two of Asian dressing.

This was followed quickly by a cafe au lait 1% milk.

Morning snack

A Starbucks 3-shot non-fat grande latte. Feel the buzz! :)

Breakfast

The usual, with Kashi GoLean Crunch.

Thursday, June 7, 2007

Dinner

A kaiser roll with a fair bit (3-4 heaping tablespoons) of egg salad,
along with a small serving of orso with feta (that's what the weird
pasta-that-looks-like-rice thing that I had yesterday was). For
dessert I had a 2" by 3" piece of carrot cake.

Afternoon snack

Café au lait with 1% milk, a sweet'n'salty bar, and a 4g square of
dark chocolate.

Lunch

Pork filet with rapini and lentils. A fairly small portion.

Breakfast

A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a cafe au lait with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Lýsi

Morning snack

A café au lait, 1% milk.

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Today

Breakfast: The usual, with Optimum Zen cereal.

Morning snack: Another café au lait 1% milk.

Lunch: Tilapiaa steamed Asian style with ginger and scallions served with rice and vegetables; I finished about 2/3rds of the rice, should have maybe finished just half.

Afternoon snack: Another café au lait 1% milk, and a 12g square of super-dark Cote-d'Or chocolate (about 60 kcal).

Dinner: A fairly large serving of romaine salad with an entire grilled chicken breast (not a huge one but still a large serving all in all) plus a small side of some kind of feta cheese salad with stuff that looks like rice but tastes like pasta.

Tuesday, June 5, 2007

Yesterday

This is posted the day after... need to remember to post after every meal.

Breakfast: My usual, with Optimum Zen cereal.

Lunch: About 15 pieces of sushi, and some Japanese-style salad with maybe two tablespoons of dressing.

Afternon snack: A café au lait, 1% milk, plus a sweet'n'salty bar, plus a few grapes (I think).

Dinner: About half a medium-size thin crust pepperoni pizza from Domino's, and about half of another thin crust with chicken, and a few cheezy-bread crumbs. An ever-so-slightly large dinner, could have fed a large family of giants as long as they weren't hungry.

Monday, June 4, 2007

Dinner

A mixte-taouk plate (shish taouk and the other dark meat) with hummus, no garlic sauce, and perhaps half of a pita bread.

Afternoon snack / Late second lunch

Chicken breast with chick pea and apple salad.

Lunch

Half of a caesar pita sandwich, and 2/3rds of a big smoothie.

Breakfast

My usual, with Kashi GoLean Crunch cereal.

Dinner with a guest

Before dinner I had a couple of glasses of rosé.

Dinner was one and a half huge servings of vegetarian lasagna, plus a mixed green salad with balsamic-based dressing. With dinner I had a couple of glasses of red wine.

toast-butter'n'jam, and a Stonyfields Farm yogurt (100 kcal).

Morning snack

I had a few nibbles of things my boys were having, but only very little.

Breakfast

Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Lýsi.

Saturday, June 2, 2007

Forgetful day

This is all from memory and a little complicated so I'm probably forgetting some stuff.

Breakfast was close to a bowl of Optimum Power, some with 1% milk and some with whole milk, plus about 2/3rds of a gluten-free apple bar thing.

Morning snack was the crust of one or two slices of bread and some other nibbles of stuff my sons were having (I think).

Lunch at the Biodome was a tuna wrap and quite a bit of the vegetable side salad that came with it, dressed in something or other, plus a whole gigantic cookie with chocolate chips - ouch.

My wife and I had an early dinner at a restaurant, mine was the seafood platter which was mostly healthy stuff (there was a bit of fish in batter but other than that everything was pretty in-the-zone). I had two pints of beer with dinner, and had a fair bit of our shared dessert which was a maple pie with sliced almonds.

We then went for Karaoke, where I had two Bacardi breezers and a few potato chips.

Ended the evening by having lots of chocolate covered raisins and lots of Kaffi and Marsípan chocolates (about 2/3rds of a bar of each). Double ouch, yuck and darn.

Friday, June 1, 2007

Evening snack (snack of the devil, that is)

Quite a lot of chocolate-coated raisins.

Dinner

Half a large thin crust Domino's pizza with pepperoni, a glass of rosé, and two glasses of red wine.

Afternoon snack

Half a small cranberry muffin and a cafe au lait 1% milk.

Lunch

Seared beef, parmesan and red wine reduction on arugula salad.

Super-sophisticated Brunch

The crust of two slices of spelt bread, with a little bit of cream cheese.

Breakfast

My usual with Optimum Power cereal, except I used whole milk (we were
out of 1% milk).

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Dinner

A small serving of yesterday's stir-fry, and a can of Heineken.

Afternoon snack

A sweet'n'salty snack bar, and a bottle of water.

Lunch

Dim sum and then sum - our caterer brought in lots of different types
of dim sum. This wasn't exactly a healthy meal, I had something like
5 or 6 different dumpling things, a small serving of noodles, and a
small dessert thingie, some kind of one-bite custard pie. Soon after
lunch I had a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

My usual: Optimum Power cereal and a café au lait, both with 1% milk,
plus a spoonful of healthy Lýsi.

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Dinner

A small portion of tofu stir fry my wife made - very delicious and quite healthy.

Not so happy with myself now...

Was feeding my boys and went mad, a serious case of emotional eating
(was feeling very stressed from work). I had a glass of rosé, two
horrible cocoa chocolate biscuit type things full of trans fats, and
three or four large bites of the "too sweet" strudel we bought the
other day. The rest of both of the aforementioned ended up in the
trash once I got a grip on myself.

Oh me oh my :(

Afternoon snack

One slice of zucchini bread and a gluten-free blueberry snack bar.

Morning snack

Cafe au lait, 1% milk.

Lunch

Thai sour red curry fish with rice noodles and bok choy. This was a
pretty awesome dish, leading me to finish all of the quite large
serving.

Breakfast

My standard, with Otimum Power cereal.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Dinner

A pretty hefty dinner at an Italian restaurant: Quite a lot of antipasti for appetizers (quite a few calamari bits, half a sausage, one bruschetta, and some grilled octopus), followed by a sirloin steak (quite large) with a peppercorn sauce, sauteed vegetables and about half of the home fry potato wedges that came with it. With dinner I had a couple of glasses of red wine, and a cappuccino for dessert.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait 1% milk, a sweet'n'salty bar and a peach from the fruit basket.

Lunch

Mediterranean chicken salad with greens, citrus couscous, tomatoes,
olives and artichokes. This was a fairly large serving but very
healthy.

Lunch was followed up by a handful of grapes (our caterer brought a
fruit basket) and a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

My usual, with Heritage O's cereal.

Monday, May 28, 2007

Dinner

Since I'd already stuffed my face in the Blitzessen a bit earlier, I just had a bowl of Optimum Power cereal with 1% milk.

Oh Man... self-control out the window

This blog was supposed to force me to think before I eat, and it has been great at that, but just now it didn't work. I was feeding my boys, and somehow ended up in a feeding frenzy myself. I had:
- 1 1/2 slices of Zucchini bread, one of them with butter
- What probably amounted to a serving of some cauliflower gratin my wife made for the boys
- Three pieces of chocolate :(
- Two teaspoonfuls of peanut butter (these were in an attempt to control the frenzy, which failed)
- A few blueberries

Doh! Doh! Doh!

Lunch

Sliced cold roast pork with jalapeno jelly served with apple slaw.
After lunch I had a cafe au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

My usual, with Optimum Power cereal.

Sunday, May 27, 2007

Sweet Dinner

A bowl of Optimum Power, followed by lots of Icelandic chocolates. My justification was that the chocolates replaced a "proper dinner". If this blog had readers, now would be the time to speak up and tell me to get a grip.

Dunch/Linner

We went to the market and had a late lunch/early dinner. I had a crepe with bechamel sauce, ham, cheese and asparagus. After dinner, a couple of bites of something called antelope horns (at a middle eastern bakery) which tasted like perfume, and a bite of strudel (from a Polish bakery) that was too sweet.

Lunch

A bowl of plain 2.5% yogurt with blueberries, blackberries, and a
little bit of Optimum Power cereal.

An after Knapsack... no wait, an after nap snack

Café au lait with 1% milk plus 2/3rds of a gluten-free blueberry snack
bar (80 kcal for the 2/3rds).

Breakfast

Optimum Power cereal with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Saturday, May 26, 2007

Dinner

A little before dinner I had one and a half petit beurre cookies.

Dinner was a quite large portion of three different Chinese dishes: Peking duck, chicken with crispy noodles in peanut sauce, and "tofu pot" (vegetables plus deep-fried tofu).

Right after dinner my hand accidentally fell into a bag of peanut M&Ms a couple of times and the only thing I could think of was to stuff the two handfuls into my mouth.

Lunch

4 squares of yesterday's thin crust chicken pizza, and 1 square of the
thin crust pepperoni pizza.

Breakfast

My standard, with Optimum Power cereal.

Friday, May 25, 2007

Oh, the humanity!

As an evening "snack" I had horrible vast amounts of super delicious Icelandic chocolate candies and felt like I was about to burst afterwards.

Dinner

A little less than 1/2 a chicken thin crust pizza, and 1/4th thin crust pepperoni pizza, plus a couple of glasses of red wine.

Lunch

Nile perch filet with citrus and saffron sauce served with greens. A little before lunch I had a regular café au lait.

Breakfast

The usual, with Optimum Power cereal.

Thursday, May 24, 2007

Dinner

Cajun chicken wrap with roasted peppers in whole wheat tortilla served with a salad of greens, baby tomatoes and olives, undressed.

Afternoon snack

A cafe au lait 1% milk and a sweet'n'salty bar.

Lunch

Roasted chicken breast served on Tuscan bread salad, tomatoes, basil
and garlic. The bread salad was not as healthy as I had hoped, some
cubes of bread with a fair bit of olive oil. The serving size was
small though.

Breakfast

Optimum Power cereal and a cafe au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Lýsi.

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Dinner

About an hour before dinner I cheated and had a couple of kids'
biscuits (little bear things), about 40 kcal combined. To stop my
cravings I had a teaspoonful of organic Valencia peanut butter (we're
almost out!).

Dinner was half a plate of a salad of iceberg and baby tomatoes,
dressed with just a touch of olive oil, balsamic and pepper, to go
with two halves of some organic vegetarian burritos (a whole burrito
was about 300 kcal). Also a couple of forkfuls of macaroni and cheese
my son was having.

Afternoon snack

1/4th of a very small (individual portion) salmon and goat cheeze
pizza, plus a small green salad, undressed.

Lunch

A puffed spelt wafer with a teaspoonful of organic Valencia peanut
butter, a sandwich with margarine, cheese, two slices of turkey ham
and two slices of some super healthy whole grain bread, and a serving
of plain yoghurt with blueberries. Followed closely by a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

Optimum Power ceral and a café au lait both with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Lýsi.

Early Dinner

A lot of seafood: 2 lobster tails, 3 scampi tails, 2 large shrimps, all with some kind of garlic bread crumbs and dipped in garlic butter. With it, a serving of rice, vegetables and some home fries, plus half a bottle of white wine. All in all a philibuster of a meal.

Day's Menu

This is from memory the day after but I think I remember everything:
  • Breakfast: My usual, i.e. a bowl of Optimum Zen and a café au lait with 1% milk, plus a spoonful of Lýsi.
  • Lunch: Bulgogi beef on a mango oriental salad. This was very healthy and really good.
  • Dinner: One and a half hamburgers of the normal size variety, in a white bun with maybe 1 1/2 or two teaspoonfuls of mayonnaise plus other healthy dressings.
  • There might have been an extra café au lait 1% milk in there somewhere.

Monday, May 21, 2007

Evening snack

4 pieces of Linda Kaffisúkkulaði (chocolate, fairly large pieces each, total is probably similar to 2/3rds of a Mars bar).

Lunch

The crust of two slices of bread, with a little bit of margarine, a
somewhat large bowl of Optimum Zen with whole milk (regular milk was
out), and half a gluten-free apple breakfast bar.

Breakfast

A gluten-free apple bar, and a Lärabar made of cashews and dates.

Sunday, May 20, 2007

Evening snack

16 pieces of Appolló lakkrís, and two bites of a Draumur.

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from restaurant Amir, sans pita bread, sans garlic sauce, but with hummus.

Pre-lunch snacks

The crust of one slice of bread, one of those sugar-free cookies, two strawberries, and a couple of
spoonfuls of yoghurt. A bit later, I had a 7-layer dip sampler at
Costco.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Optimum Zen cereal and a café au lait, both with 1%
milk, plus a spoonful of delicious Norwegian Lýsi.

Saturday, May 19, 2007

Candy, Destroyer of Diets

About 8 pieces of Appolló liquorice, plus 3 pieces of Lindu Marsípan chocolate.

Dinner

Half a medium size thin and crispy Domino's pizza with chicken, onions
and pineapple, plus 4/14ths of a medium size thin and crispy
vegetarian pizza.

Afternoon snack

Something like 2 small sugar-free cookies.

Lunch

A really good steak salad; medium-rare steak pieces, arugula, slivers
of parmigiano, truffle oil, and aged balsamic vinegar. Before the
meal I had a café au lait and two slices of baguette bread with olive
oil and balsamic vinegar. Afterwards, I had a little bit (perhaps 8
small teaspoonfuls) of ice cream.

Breakfast

Two gluten-free apple bars and a Diet Coke.

Midnight snack

Actually way past midnight, I had one of these gluten-free apple bars
my wife bought (120 kcal).

Friday, May 18, 2007

...and

4 bonbons from the bakery across the street. Stressful indeed - but
now I'm done done done (with the eating, not the stress).

Evening snack

One Jocalat Lärabar (190 kcal). What can I say, it was a stressful night.

Dinner

A small portion of chicken pot pie, a not-too-big portion of
cauliflower gratine, a portion of kidney and chicken bean salad with
some olive oil, as well as the rest (3 bites) of that yucky Starbucks
monstrosity and a small square of carrot cake.

Afternoon snack

A crunchy peanut butter granola bar from Nature Valley (230 kcal).

Lunch

Salmon salad with dill on multigrain bread served with green salad.
Fairly modest serving. Followed closely by a cafe au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

Two bites of the horrible Starbucks mutant croissant my wife bought
yesterday, a very small bowl of Mesa Sunrise and a cafe au lait both
with 1% milk, plus some Krakkalýsi.

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Dinner

A modest serving of chicken pot pie, a serving of cauliflower gratin,
the small service of fiddlehead ferns that remained since yesterday,
and a small serving of tomato pasta salad.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait 1% milk and a Nature Valley Apple Cinnamon Trail Mix
bar (150 kcal).

Lunch

Roasted chicken with cauliflower puree and wilted greens. A fairly
modest serving. Followed closely by a café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A bowl of Mesa Sunrise flakes and a café au lait, both with whole milk
since the regular stuff was out (I used less than normally, especially
for the coffee), plus a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Dinner

A serving of tilapia, some fiddlehead ferns (weird green snail-like
vegetables) sauteed with garlic and sesame seeds, bean salad in olive
oil, a tiny bit of pasta salad with sundried tomatoes, and some
steamed broccoli with a tiny bit of butter. Altogether this made for
a fairly modest serving.

Lunch

Pad thai - chicken, tofu, egg, peanuts and sprouts. A somewhat hefty serving.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A café au lait with 1% milk, a bowl of Mesa Sunrise (basically healthy
corn flakes) with whole milk (the 1% milk was finished), and a
spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Dinner

Before dinner I had a couple of bites of my son's pasta.

Dinner was a portion of chicken pot pie and a portion of cauliflower
gratine, plus some grilled asparagus spears.

After dinner I had a slice of carrot cake and several pieces of See´s chocolate.

BIG OOPS. I've lost my horse but will try to get back on it tomorrow.

Afternoon snack

Café au lait 1% milk and half of that chocolate muffin (fairly small).

Lunch

Arugula salad with poached pears, pine nuts and parmesan, dressed with
about a teaspoonful of vinaigrette. This was a very small serving. I did not have the chocolate muffin that came with it for dessert - yippeekayee.

After lunch I had a café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A café au lait and a bowl of Heritage O's, both with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Monday, May 14, 2007

Dinner

About 1/3rd of a large Domino's thin crust pizza with chicken, onions and pineapple, and about 1/7th of a medium Domino's thin crust pizza with cheese.

A while after dinner I had about half of 6 different See's nuts and chews pieces (equivalent to about 3 pieces in total).

Lunch

I forgot to order food yesterday, so I didn't get the "healthy choice"
meal, which is what I normally order. What I got was a BLT sandwich
made with crispy proscuitto, oven roasted tomatoes, oka cheese on
multigrain bread served with green salad. The serving size was small
so I don't think this was a terrible choice.

The meal was followed closely by a café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A bowl of Corn Flakes with milk (probably 2%), a cup of coffee with a
bit of cream, and a banana. This was followed closely by a whole milk
café latte.

Sunday, May 13, 2007

A dark grey day!

Not sure I remember everything, but here goes:

Breakfast: A bowl of Heritage Os and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a banana.

Lunch: Quite a fair bit too much of three different types of crépes. Two out of three seemed quite fattening, with lots of cheese and bechamel sauce. I also had a beer to wash things down.

Afternoon snack: A café au lait, 1% milk, and something like 2/3rds of a "Beavertail" (a deep-fried pastry thing), part with cinnamon and sugar, another part (which I had more of) with chocolate sauce, pecans and glazing. Horrible but delicious.

Dinner: A little bit of beef sashimi, around 15 pieces of various sushi pieces (mostly healthy) and a little more than half of a piece of cheesecake, plus a couple of beers before dinner and some sake to go with dinner.

Breakfast

The usual: A bowl of Heritage Os and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Saturday, May 12, 2007

A black day!

I'm sure I forgot something since this is all written the day after.

Breakfast: 4 or 5 squares of yesterday's pizza, and some Diet Coke. For some reason I'm feeling hung over.

Brunch/Lunch: Lots of different things, some of them not healthy whatsoever; what I remember is some Rockaberry's Oreo cheesecake (a few teaspoonfuls), more pizza (probably 4-5 more squares altogether) and maybe 15-20 peanut M&Ms.

Dinner: Steak in a dark gravy and sweet potato fries with mayonnaise, washed down with two pints of lager and followed by a cappuccino and panna cotta.

Movie snack: I bought a medium popcorn (which is fairly huge) and shared it with my wife, probably had a bit more than a "small" bag.

Friday, May 11, 2007

Dinner

About 3/4ths of a medium Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza with pepperoni and stuff, and two glasses of red wine. After dinner I had something like 4 pieces of See's chocolates.

Lunch

Tuna salad with crackers, a meatball sandwich (kind of yucky) and a sliced apple, on the plane.

Breakfast

A small bowl of raisin bran with 2% milk, a banana, and a cup of coffee with half-and-half.

Dinner

Half a plate of baby spinach salad with some almonds, crumbled blue
cheese and half a teaspoon of dressing, plus two small pieces of
blackened cod (very good), a serving of chili corn rice, and a tiny
portion of asparagus spears sautéed in white wine. Soon after dinner
I had a couple of pieces of candied ginger and a 5g square of dark
chocolate for dessert.

Afternoon snack

Two small mouthfuls of some apple pie kind of thing.

Whole-day buzz

I had something like three cafe au laits with 2% milk throughout the day.

Lunch

Several tapas things, all of them pretty healthy, and amounting to a
relatively small meal. There was a shot-glass of avocado gazpacho
soup, a tiny portion of hamachi sashimi, a gigante beans dish, a
couple of tiny strips of beef on spicy spaghetti, a couple of
mouthfuls of a lamb chop (which was undercooked so I didn't have much)
and the small portion of mashed potatoes that came with it, and a
strawberry/lime "soup" dessert.

Breakfast

A small bowl of the granola from a couple of days ago, and a cafe au
lait, both with 2% milk.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

Evening snack

1 slice candied ginger, 1 slice candied mango

Dinner

Indian food. I had a fairly modest serving (one plate, not heaping at
all) of a few different fairly healthy-looking-and-tasting dishes:
- a teaspoonful of mango chutney
- a small serving of basmati rice
- a serving of "shellfish delight" which I didn't finish
- a small serving of a very nice, spicy lentil dall
- a small serving of a pretty good squash chutney
- a small serving of a zucchini salad
- 1 papadum (okay this one is maybe not so healthy)

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Afternoon snack

A small plate of raw vegetables and half a raspberry.

Lunch

A chicken breast with a green salad topped with a little bit of cheese
and crispy greens (celery etc.) and a small serving of a kidney bean
salad. Also a coffee with milk.

Morning snack

A cup of coffee with milk

Breakfast

A small bowl of raisin bran flakes with 2% milk, and a cup of coffee
with whole milk.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Dinner

A serving of a cajun pork and sausage gumbo, a very small serving of
rice, a small serving of a greens medley (kael and other similar
greens), and a small serving of roasted something-or-others that are a
cross between apples and potatoes.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait with 2% milk, then later in the afternoon a two-bite
cheese/paprika/tortilla snack.

Lunch

A small bowl of rice and kidney bean soup, followed by a large salad
(full plate) of baby greens, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and crawfish,
tossed with about a tablespoon of herb vinaigrette.

Breakfast

A very small bowl of some kind of granola with almonds and pumpkin
seeds, which was very tasty and very difficult to eat (which I'll take
as a good sign - lots of chewing required), plus a café au lait, both
with 2% milk.

Monday, May 7, 2007

Dinner

Half a plate of a baby greens salad with a handful of walnuts, red paprika, and a little bit of vinaigrette, plus a serving of prime rib in a cajun gravy.  I also had a little bit of crawfish bisque but it was terrible so I left it.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait, 2% milk.

Lunch in California

Half a plate of a green salad with a small handful of pistachios, a spoonful of pine nuts, a couple of handfuls of raspberries and a heaped spoonful of crumbled blue cheese, plus a fairly small "jambalaya "patty (shrimps and rice) and a serving of chili-rubbed Kobe beef.

Noon snack on the plane

A small bag of baby carrots, plus a little bit of the ranch dressing that came with them.

Mid-morning snack on the plane

Tuna salad plus crackers, and an apple (210 kcal altogether).

Breakfast

A bowl of Heritage O's and a cafe au lait, both 1% milk, plus Krakkalysi.

Friday, May 4, 2007

Progress so far

So far I've lost 4" on my waist (down to 45" from a start of 49") and at least 7 kilograms (down to 122.2 kg, was 129.3 on my first "official" day - but was a couple of kilos more a day or two earlier). 10 inches and 40 kilograms to go :)

Lunch

Grilled salmon trout and blue marlin with avocado ginger sauce (didn't seem fatty), a serving of basmati rice which I didn't finish, and a serving of boiled potatoes. Had a café au lait beforehand, and a glass of wine with the meal. For dessert I had about half a slice of decadent chocolate torte (shared with my wife). Soon after dinner I had a Hob Nob, I wonder why... :)

Breakfast

Café au lait, 1% milk, and a spoonful of Krakkalýsi. No cereal because we're going out for lunch soon.

Thursday, May 3, 2007

Evening snack

A bowl of Orville Redenbacher's "Léger" pop (300 kcal in total), one
peanut M&M, and some Diet Coke.

Dinner

21/56ths (yes, scientifically measured) of two medium thin and crispy
crust Domino's pizzas with pepperoni and some veggies, plus two
glasses of red wine, and half a can of beer.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait 1% milk and a Sweet'n'Salty thingamabob.

Lunch

We had an appetizer which was a little bit of a cold yoghurt/cucumber/mint soup which really wasn't all that great - as Siggi put it, "tastes like thinned-out toothpaste".

Main course was a really delicious beef chili with a small dash of sour cream on top.

Morning snack

Cafe au lait, 1% milk

Breakfast

Three Weetabix cakes with 1% milk, a cafe au lait 1% milk, a couple of bites of my son's multigrain bread with margarine and cheese, and finished the rest (about half) of his drinkable yogurt.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

Dinner

A Subway 12" tuna sub on whole wheat bread with Swiss cheese, lettuce,
tomatoes, mustard, salt and pepper.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait, 1% milk, and a Nature Valley Sweet'n'Salty bar.

Lunch

Artichoke heart, red pepper and ricotta served on green salad. This
was basically a really big salad with next to no dressing, only juicy
part was the ricotta stuffing in the artichoke hearts. Really good,
too.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A bowl of Heritage O's and a cafe au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a
spoonful of Lýsi.

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Dinner

A delicious stir fry my wife made, with noodles, string beans, paprika, onions and more, plus some awesome strips of marinated steak. Serving size was appropriate or maybe even somewhat small.

For dessert, I had 1/4th of a huge chocolate eclair (my wife had the rest).

Pre-dinner snack

One multigrain bagel crisp (20 kcal), three or four bites of my son's
cream-cheese bagel, and finally to stop my cravings, the crust of one
slice of bread and a teaspoonful of Valencia peanut butter.

Afternoon snack

Cafe au lait with 1% milk.

Lunch

Grilled chicken breast with greek salad. Portion size was not too big.

Breakfast

A bowl of Heritage O's and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and a
spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Monday, April 30, 2007

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from Amir restaurant, sans pita bread, sans garlic sauce, but with hummus.

Lunch

Spicy shrimp with mixed vegetables and wild rice salad. This was very healthy and quite a small portion.

Morning snack

Cafe au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A bowl of Heritage O's and a cafe au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Evening snack

Half a bowl of peanut M&M's, about 3 or 4 decent-sized handfuls I guess.

Dinner

Five squares of that same old pizza. It's definitely lost its excitement for me :)

Lunch, Redux

A Java U hamburger (with a bit of bacon and goat cheese) and about 1/3rd of the portion of fries that came with it. Yes, the hangover munchies came home to roost.

Lunch

4 squares of the same pizza. This is turning into the great pizza weekend.

Breakfast

A delba (German super-bread) slice with about two teaspoonfuls of Valencia peanut butter.

Pre-breakfast

Feeling kind of hung over, I had two Hob Nobs and the rest (maybe 1/4th) of a chocolate biscotti thing my wife had bought at Starbucks.

Saturday, April 28, 2007

A night on the town

We went out with a few friends, to an Italian fusion type restaurant. I had:
  • Salmon tartar with guacamole (fairly large portion for a starter)
  • Braised calves cheeks, a somewhat large portion with tangy sauce
  • About half of a delicious dessert which was a bit over the top

Also an aperitif, a few glasses of wine with dinner, a beer and a rum and coke.

Once we got home, we had more thin crust pizza, I had about half a medium one.

Afternoon snacks

A café au lait, and 1 1/2 Hob Nobs cookies.

Lunch

Five squares of the pizza from yesterday (equivalent to about 1/3rd of a medium pizza).

Morning snack

An "organic health food bar" with nuts and cocoa and mint (190 kcal).

Breakfast

A small bowl of Nature's Path Heritage O's with light soy milk, and a café au lait with 1% milk.

Dinner

Too much of a medium Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza with pepperoni, probably at least 3/4ths if not close to a whole pizza. Also a couple of glasses wine. For dessert I had about half a large chocolate truffle.

Lunch on the plane

Tuna salad with crackers (150 kcal), a sliced apple, and a meatball sandwich on white bread sub.

Friday, April 27, 2007

Breakfast

A bowl of some raisin bran cereal with milk (not sure what kind) and a coffee with a bit of milk.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Dinner

Half a plate of a salad of greens and a corn side dish, lightly dressed, a serving of vegetable medley, and a serving of American kobe beef hand-rubbed with chili - absolutely delicious. I also had some Mascarpone dessert, very small serving.

Buzzzzzzz

I think I've had 2 café au laits today apart from the one at breakfast. Also, I had one of those probiotic drinkable yoghurt things as an afternoon snack.

Lunch

Half a plate of a greens, berries and almond slivers salad tossed super lightly with balsamic and olive oil, plus a small steak, a small portion of a sausage and potato dish, and a small portion of an asparagus side.

Breakfast

A small bowl of something called Good Start, and a café au lait, both 2% milk, plus a small square of dark chocolate (5 grams).

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Dinner

A tossed salad and two tamales with mole. One had lamb, the other mushrooms. Fairly small portion but obviously the mole and tamales are not exactly the healthiest things in the world. I also had about 2/3rds of a very small portion of some weird dessert called forbidden black rice pudding, which was basically a rice pudding with some weird healthy rice.

Lunch

A large healthy salad (greens, beans, strawberries), with some crumbled blue cheese and a little bit of basil oil to dress, plus a shot-glass of gazpacho soup plus three small tapas - a very small serving of tuna sashimi with red onions, a small serving of seared white fish with a marmalade of pearl onions, and a small serving of almond-crusted venison. Followed closely by a café au lait 2% milk.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 2% milk

Breakfast

A very small bowl of the same cereal I had yesterday (I couldn't find
a proper bowl), and a café au lait, both with 2% milk.

Dinner

Half a plate of a lightly dressed spinach and paprika salad, half a "purple potato", three spears of asparagus in a small amount of hollandaise sauce, and a really good duck breast with almonds and spicy sauce.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait, 2% milk, and one of those little probiotic yogurt things you drink.

Lunch

A pork chop with a very small bit of flavored butter, a small bit of cucumber with some vegetarian pate inside it, and a fairly large serving

Morning snack

Café au lait, 2% milk.

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Breakfast

A small bowl of something that looked fibrous and crunchy (some kind of raisin bran) and a café au lait, both with 2% milk. No Lýsi, but plenty of sun.

Monday, April 23, 2007

Dinner

Went to Fukisushi (in Palo Alto I think) with Fabrice and Stephen, where I had about 15 pieces of different kinds of sushi (a couple were tempura things like a dragon roll, and a couple were "spicy" rolls with a bit too much mayo on them), and a little bit of sake.

The coffee here is so good...

I've made myself two café au laits with the awesome Illy coffee they
have here. The milk is reduced fat, I believe that means 2%.

Lunch at the cafeteria

Three small slices of a venison steak, a small serving of asparagus in
some kind of hot sauce, and half a plate of a green, green, yellow and
red salad with a little bit of olive oil and balsamic.

Morning snack on the plane

A tuna salad with 6 crackers (150 kcal total) plus a small apple in
slices (60 kcal).

Breakfast

My regular: A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch plus café au lait 1% milk
plus Krakkalýsi.

Sunday, April 22, 2007

A snack fit for a movie

A bag of SmartPop popcorn, and five Kúlusúkk (small pieces of chocolate-covered liquorice).

An early dinner

About 1 1/2 or 1 3/4ths of some wraps from JavaU, all at least somewhat healthy. Also maybe three handfuls of french fries, also a couple of bites of a chocolate macaroon.

I almost completely lost it and was about to eat a full 2 wraps plus lots of dessert. My wife helped me stop. I should have just left the table earlier, snuck at least a handfuls of french fries after I had officially stopped eating.

A muffin in lieu of lunch

Had a triple-shot café latte from Starbucks plus about one muffin (two different types, both some kind of bran or oatmeal muffin I think).

A snack at lunchtime

Just before my regular lunchtime, I was getting very hungry and with no sight of lunch any time soon, I had about 4 teaspoonfuls of organic Valencia peanut butter on small pieces of flour tortilla.

Breakfast

A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait with 1% milk, plus awful Krakkalýsi.

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Popcorn at the Movies

Had a "small" bag of popcorn, no butter.

An Early Dinner Out

A breast of duck, with stuffing, butternut squash puree, and a cranberry reduction. I had most of the breast, half of the stuffing (1 1/2 small patties), half of the butternut squash and most of the cranberry reduction. This was a bit of a fatty meal but the portion size (after my adjustments to the sides) was fairly small. Drank a glass of red wine with it, and had one slice of bread with olive oil and vinegar before the meal.

Also had about four or five spoonfuls of a chocolate torte in pudding.

Lunch

A green salad, lightly dressed, with a handful of walnuts and a little
bit of fresh goat cheese, plus two veggie burgers, some French
mustard, and Diet Coke to drink. Also a couple of small bites of my
son's cream cheese bagel - he offered and would not take no for an
answer :)

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1%
milk, preceded horribly by a spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Friday, April 20, 2007

Dinner

A little more than half an hour before dinner, I had a small handful of walnuts.

Dinner was 1.1 small thin and crisply Domino's pizza, half all
dressed, half chicken/onion/pineapple, and two glasses of red wine.

Lunch

Chicken, artichoke heart, tomato, citrus bulgar and greeen salad, plus
a can of Perrier. Small portion.

Soon after lunch, I had a café au lait, 1% milk, and something like a
1"x2" square of brownies we had at work for a special occasion.

Mid-morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk

Breakfast

A bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both 1% milk, and a
horrid little spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Thursday, April 19, 2007

Evening coffee

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Dinner

1.1 whole wheat tortillas topped with marinara sauce, ham, mushrooms,
red peppers, and skim mozzarella cheese, plus 3 strawberries, plus
half a can of beer. I think the portion size was good.

Lunch

Tandoori chicken wrap with coriander yogurt served with green salad.
Portion size was not too big, not too small. Had a can of Perrier to
go with it, and a café au lait 1% milk soon after lunch.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch (yum) and a café au lait, both
with 1% milk, plus a horrid spoonful of Krakkalýsi.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Dinner

Half a four egg omelet with tomatoes and skim mozzarella cheese, on
top of a toasted sesame seed bagel, topped with copious amounts of the
great mozzarella sauce my wife made the other day. Had half a can of
beer with the meal.

Lunch

Kafta lamb served with tzatziki and taboulleh salad. This was my day
to learn that kafta lamb looks like something else from a lamb, but
tastes delicious. This was a pretty small serving, although I had
about half of the tzatziki.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk,
and a spoonful of not-so-delicious Krakkalýsi.

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from restaurant Amir (sans pita, sans garlic sauce), and some Diet Coke.

Pre-dinner snack

1/3rd of a conversation piece that accidentally happened along my way. Then half a slice of bread with a teaspoon of organic Valencia peanut butter to tide me over to dinner, and finally a small bite of a rolled up tortilla with cream cheese and ham that my son was having and offered me.

Lunch

A small serving of chicken breast (left-overs of my mother's delicious chicken), a serving of macaroni and cheese, a teaspoonful of cocktail sauce, and two squares of the pepperoni/mushroom/pineapple pizza from the day before yesterday. After lunch I accidentally rammed a small mouthful of a conversation piece (sweet pastry) into my mouth.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and the final spoon of Lýsi.

Monday, April 16, 2007

Dinner

My mother made her famous chicken. I had one skinless chicken breast
(just the breast, not the humongous thing you get from e.g. St.
Hubert), one drumstick, a portion of macaroni and cheese, one potato,
about two teaspoonfuls of cocktail sauce, and a glass of white wine.

Afternoon snack

My son wanted to give me half of his ginger snap cookie. I couldn't refuse.

Lunch

Chicken club wrap - bacon, tomato, garlic aioli served with green
salad. Not sure why I got this, as I ordered the asian salmon burger
with sesame seeds and pickles served with green salad, but probably
fine as it wasn't too juicy.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk,
against a backdrop of Lýsi.

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Humongous Pig-Out

My only excuse is I was really hung over:
  • Half a bag of Nóa Lakkrískúlur and a few Kúlusúkk (both little balls of chocolate with either toffee or liquorice)
  • Something like 3 scoops of Heavenly Hash ice cream
  • Something like 1/3rd of a Freyju Draumur (liquorice and chocolate bar)
  • Diet Coke

Dinner

About half a large Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza, half with
pepperoni, mushrooms and pineapple, the other half with chicken,
onions and pineapple. Had a large glass of wine with it and had a
sneaky chocolate (one piece of Linda confectionary) after dinner.

Breakfast at 5 PM

10 or 12 chocolate truffles, and a café au lait with 1% milk.

A night on the town

My wife and I hit a comedy club and then a nightclub. As a late dinner, I had:
- 3/4ths of a small thin crust pizza with goat's cheese
- Maybe 1/3rd of an average serving of nachos supreme

At the end of the evening, I had a blackened breast of chicken with a few small pieces of fried plantain and a green salad.

Apart from the above, a bunch of drinks - beer, Bailey's, and Cuba Libres.

Afternoon/evening snack

Two small handfuls of nuts and seeds and a couple of slices of lemon.

Lunch

Half a tomato, two squares (out of 16) of a medium Domino's thin and crispy all dressed pizza, half a slice of that same dense German linseed bread with a slice of Jarlsberg cheese, another half slice with organic Valencia peanut butter, and a Silhouette yogurt. Drank Coke Zero with the meal.

A late breakfast (the wonders of sleeping in)

1/4th of a carrot nut muffin, 1/4th of a conversation piece, one ginger snap (tiny cookie) and half a slice of linseed bread with organic Valencia peanut butter. With it I had a café au lait with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Dinner

I took my mother out for Indian food at Mysore restaurant. I had:
  • Some papadum to start.
  • Shahi Rejala, a beef dish in a sweet and sour sauce; I had most of my serving which was probably a bit much.
  • Methi Aloo, a potato curry; I had a large spoonful just to taste.
  • Mixed vegetable bhaji; again just a large spoonful to taste.
  • Palao rice, an average serving.
  • A little bit of Naan, perhaps equivalent to a slice of bread.
  • A teaspoonful of mango chutney.
  • A small square of dessert similar to prasat, made of coconut, pistachios and Indian cream.
I drank water and Diet Coke with the meal. All in all a pretty big one, enough that after the meal I ate a bit much but not so that I'm overstuffed.

The food was very good, the service not so.

Late afternoon snack

The rest of the aforementioned muffin. Unfortunately, web-based evidence indicates the muffin may have been up to about 500 kcal in total. Argh. Bad, bad delicious irresistible muffin.

Lunch

Had another a café au lait, 1% milk, just before lunch. Feeling the buzz!

Lunch consisted of some seared filet of beef in rice paper wraps with tropical fruit chutney and greens served with sesame noodles and julienne of vegetables, plus a can of Perrier. Quite delicious, so much better than yesterday's salty chewy fish.

Mid-morning snack

A Grande skim latté, extra shot, and about 1/4th of a sesame pumpkin seed muffin from Starbucks.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk. A bit later in the morning I had a lovely solitary spoonful of Lýsi. My older son had one too, and at first he said he didn't like it but a bit later he said he did and wanted it again tomorrow. Breakthrough!

Thursday, April 12, 2007

Dinner

2 1/2 meatballs, with marinara sauce, whole wheat spaghetti and some shaved parmesan.

Lunch

Miso soup with chicken breast, vegetables and egg noodles, and some Diet Pepsi. The portion was somewhat large but I don't feel stuffed after having it so probably OK.

Mid-morning snack

A café au lait, 1% milk, and a "Middle Aged Crazy Pill" my colleague gave me (a very tiny candy, the size of a small pill).

Breakfast

A portion of oatmeal with 2/3rds of a banana, and a café au lait, both with dreaded full-fat biological 3.8% milk because we were out of 1% (I used less than normal for the coffee and just a tiny bit for the porridge). To offset the healthful disadvantages of the milk, I had some Lýsi magic potion.

I have to be careful

It's 10:30 and I just wrote all the entries for the diary for today, having forgotten to write them during the day like I'm supposed to. So there may be small inaccuracies but overall I think I got it all down. I need to be careful not to get complacent and stop writing in the diary.

I also had a close encounter with some chocolate truffles today, went as far as opening the box a little bit. It's hard for me because a lot of the left-over chocolate from Easter is still in plain view when I walk around the house, I'll need to move it into closed cupboards or get my wife to eat it or something :)

Finally, I've noticed that in the last few days I've had a few incidents of mindless eating, where I e.g. eat little bits of the food I'm preparing for my sons. These little transgressions have not all made their way into the food diary, and I'm worried about them because this type of thing is exactly what I'm trying to train myself not to do by using the food diary. I'll need to be more religious about recording everything in the diary, and to think before I grab something whether eating it is really worth having to remember to write it down.

Dinner

4 1/2 really delicious non-meat meatballs on whole-wheat spaghetti topped with very tasty marinara sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, served with a lightly dressed green salad. I had about half a glass of red wine to go with the meal.

Lunch

Miso glazed haddock on bok choy and bulgar salad, and a Diet Pepsi. This is only the second time I've had something from our caterer that really wasn't good - the haddock was salty and chewy, which can be nice for beef jerky but not for fish.

Right after lunch, I had a café au lait with 1% milk.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, deliciously offset by smooth and oily Lýsi.

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Dinner

1/4th of an omelette made of 6 eggs and about 1 1/2 egg whites, with tomatoes and shredded cheese, topped with some cranberry/mango salsa. Half a serving or so of the Indian chicken in cream sauce curry my wife made for Easter. Finally, 1/4th of a carrot muffin. Drank Diet Coke with it. Probably could have done without that piece of muffin.

Whoops!

It's dinner time but no dinner yet. I was just checking to see what our neighbor had brought us over for Easter, and it turned out to be a box of very delicious-looking chocolate truffles. I "decided" to try "just one" and ended up having five plus a small piece of milk chocolate from a separate source. So big whoops. I've asked my wife to move all of the chocolate that's left over from Easter so that I won't be tripping over it at every turn, hopefully that will help.

Lunch

Just before lunch, I had a café au lait, 1% milk.

Lunch was a salmon fillet with mango salsa, with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, at the restaurant in my building's lobby. Serving was fairly small but there was probably a fair bit of butter in the dish. Washed down with a bit of sparkling water.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, chasing a honey golden spoon of Lýsi.

Monday, April 9, 2007

Dinner

A baked sweet potato with a bit of taco cheese, some salsa, some black beans, and sour cream, with a lightly dressed salad, a few (like 5) multi-grain tostitos, and about a spoonful of guacamole. Washed it down with about half a glass of white wine.

Lunch

Yes, I had no breakfast today except for a can of Diet Coke (woke up pretty late, then headed straight for the mall).

For lunch, I had a teriyaki chicken/beef combo (a serving of white rice, vegetables, beef and chicken, with teriyaki sauce, supposedly quite healthy), with a can of Diet Coke.

Delicious Easter Horror

Let's just pretend today was some kind of time anomaly and actually happened before I started on a diet, and keep going as if it never happened. I had multiple helpings of delicious Indian things my wife made, wine, beer, chocolate and very good conversation with our many guests.

Sunday, April 8, 2007

Easter Gorging

Two easter eggs, sizes 2 and 3. Got that "Easter Feeling".

Lunch

Two tomatoes, 9 strawberries, one banana, 1/4th of a carrot muffin, and 1/4th of a conversation piece, with a café au lait 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and 10 ml of that golden liquid Lýsi.

Saturday, April 7, 2007

Dinner

Half of a large Domino's thin and crispy all dressed pizza, plus a couple of bites of cheesy bread, something like 1000 kcal altogether, and a glass of red wine.

Pre-dinner snack

One fourth of yesterday's evil cinnamon pastries.

Lunch

One scrambled egg, one tomato, six strawberries, a stick of aged cheddar, and the rinds of two slices of bread that my son got the centers of (approximately equivalent to one slice altogether), with a can of Diet Coke.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, contrasted against the crisp backdrop of a spoonful of Lýsi.

Friday, April 6, 2007

Dinner

Half a chicken breast with cheese and red peppers from Pret a Manger, one third of a baked potato from same, a portion of bean salad from same, and a tiny bit of the stir-fry my wife made a couple of days ago. One glass of white wine to wash it down, and a can of Diet Coke soon after dinner.

Oh the shame

I had two (in total - one whole and one in pieces) of the little cinnamon pastry thingies I bought "for my mother" when I went to the store. They're small but horrible, 190 kcal total per the packaging.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait with 1% milk, and a square of 86% chocolate (10g).

Lunch

Leftovers from the Indian meal yesterday, basically the same stuff, a bit smaller portion, no Naan, no beer. Drank a Diet Coke with it. Also had a bite of a pastry my mother gave my older one, and a couple of slices of banana.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean (not Crunch) and a café au lait, both with 1% milk. Enhanced with the flavorful aroma of Lýsi.

Thursday, April 5, 2007

Dinner

Indian food from Maison de Cari. I had a small serving of each of:
  • Pathia Shrimps (#41)
  • Sag aloo bhaji (#83)
  • Aloo gobi (#110)
  • Peas palao (#72)
and a tiny bit of Nan. Altogether it did not fill up my plate, I think the serving was about right and the dishes were not of the creamy kind.

In addition, I had a Stella Artois (330 ml). This was probably a bit over the top. Back on the horse tomorrow.

Lunch

Went to Kaizen with my sister. I had three small pieces of Tempura, then 16 pieces of Sushi and "new style" Sashimi; the latter was really super delicious - semi-marinated with ginger, roe and mint leaf or something like that. After that, a couple of spoonfuls of green tea ice cream. Washed it all down with Perrier. A really great meal.

Breakfast

A very small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and some Lýsi to take away the taste (or was that the other way around?).

Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Evening snack

I had a couple of forkfuls of a delicious stirfry dish my wife made for my sister, who is visiting.

Dinner

Two large chili/garlic prawns, 1/4th of a large turkey burger, a portion of boiled vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, red peppers), and a portion of fried rice, all from Pret a Manger, plus a can of Diet Coke.

Lunch

Seared scallops wrapped in proscuitto served with sweet pea and mint puree and asparagus, and a Perrier. Small portion.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait (both 1% milk) plus a spoonful of Lýsi to make it all go down in the most delightful way.

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

Dinner

A shish taouk plate from Amir, minus the pita, minus garlic sauce, with a can of Diet Coke.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait, 1% milk, and a single square of 70% chocolate (about 5 grams).

Lunch

Roasted tilapia, coriander and charred tomato sandwich on baguette with arugula salad, with a Diet Pepsi.

Monday, April 2, 2007

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Sunday, April 1, 2007

A late dinner

Half of a large thin and crispy crust Domino's pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and pineapple, and a glass of red wine. That half a pizza was approximately 950 kcal according to Domino's nutritional information, so I guess I went a little overboard. Back on the horse tomorrow.

Afternoon snack and a reason for excuses

A café au lait at the playground, followed a couple of hours later by something like half a cheese stick, a couple of mouthfuls of an almond pastry (whoops) and a couple of bites of my son's cream-cheese tortilla (whoops). Since I was still having cravings I decided to have half a banana and a couple of teaspoons of peanut butter, and that hit the spot. It was actually my regular dinner time when I had these (waiting for my wife to get back from an appointment), so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Lunch

Family trip to IKEA. I had 10 Swedish meatballs, 1 1/2 potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberry sauce, plus three spoonfuls of a blueberry pie, with Diet Pepsi on the side.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi Golean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, prefixed by a delicious spoonful of Lýsi. A major breakthrough this morning: My older son tried Lýsi and said he liked it.

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Evening snack

A Coke Blak (45 kcal) and some low-fat microwave popcorn (under 300 kcal).

Dinner

A Shish Taouk plate from restaurant Amir, sans garlic sauce, sans pita, with a glass of red wine.

Afternoon snack

I'm on a roll, no time for lunch, so having another Sweet'n'Salty thingie (170 kcal) and a V8 (70 kcal) to tide me through to dinner.

Mid-day snack

I want to delay lunch a little bit so I'm having a small snack at 11:50, a Nature Valley Sweet'n'Salty bar (170 kcal) and a Perrier.

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, plus some delicious Lýsi.

Friday, March 30, 2007

Dinner

A single large burrito with that same good meat sauce, some mozzarella skim cheese, some salad, and salsa. A few bites of my son's cheesier version as well, which brought the portion size up to rather large. Also a glass of red wine.

Afternoon snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Lunch

Sicilian tuna salad - black olives, capers and hot peppers served on greens, with a slice of olive bread, and a can of Perrier.

Breakfast

A bowl of Cheerios with some flaxseed sprinkled on top, and a café au lait, both with 1% milk. Also a spoonful of delicious Lýsi.

Thursday, March 29, 2007

Dinner and a Movie

A not-too-large serving of whole grain nachos with the same super-complicated, super-healthy, super-tasty meat sauce, some skim mozzarella cheese and salsa, along with a Diet Coke.

At the movies, 3/4ths of a small popcorn (no butter) and lots of Diet Coke.

Afternoon snack

Being quite hungry after my very tiny lunch, I had about 1/4th of a portion of the penne pasta with mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese that my wife ate hardly any of at lunch yesterday.

Lunch

A very good but also rather tiny goat cheese salad with crouton on frisee salad and lemon thyme vinaigrette, and a can of Perrier.

Breakfast

A bowl of Nature's Path Spelt Flakes, and a café au lait, both with 1% milk, plus a spoonful of Lýsi.

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

Dinner

A super-complicated, super-healthy, super-delicious spaghetti sauce my wife made in the slow cooker, with a slice of whole grain toast, a small portion of spelt macaroni, and a bit of skim mozzarella sprinkled over.

Afternoon snack

A café au lait with 1% milk.

Lunch

Roasted vegetable stack on couscous salad with tomato and parsley, and a can of Perrier.

Breakfast

Small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Afternoon snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Cajun chicken sandwich with avocado and tomato on kaiser served with green salad, and a can of Diet Pepsi.

Dinner

A Shish Taouk plate from Amir restaurant, sans pita bread, with a glass of red wine.

Breakfast

Back on the horse: A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch with 1% milk and a spoonful of Lýsi.

A night on the town

Went out for dinner and drinks with my wife. We hit Otto at the W, then Go Go, Jello, and finally a post-concert gathering on St-Denis and Mont Royal. Not the best night for dieting, but lots of fun.

Appetizer: Yellow fin tuna tartar, guacamole, yuzu cilantro tabouleh. Very good!
Main course: Grilled hamachi with cherry tomato & lobster couscous, fresh hearts of palm and rosemary samorilla. Truly excellent!
Dessert: An awesome chocolate truffle with chocolate gelato and a caramel crunch.
Drinks: Dry vodka martini with a twist as an aperitif, Conundrum (Californian white wine) with the food.

After dinner, a few drinks, and I ended the night by having half a 12" all dressed thin and crispy crust pizza; unhealthy but necessary for the morning after...

Saturday, March 24, 2007

Brunch

We had friends over, and my wife made a few recipes from a dieter's cookbook, all really good (and one a bit too good...). I had a small serving of a sweet potato frittata (an Italian open-faced omelet finished under the broiler) and a green salad with vinaigrette, one blueberry pancake with a serving of strawberries, pineapple and watermelon (no syrup), and a small slice of coffee cake. Had a café au lait (1% milk) to go with the food. About an hour later, I had a heaped teaspoon of organic Valencia peanut butter and a glass of Diet Coke to control some cravings for said coffee cake.

Breakfast

A spoonful of Lýsi, a small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and a café au lait, both with 1% milk.

Friday, March 23, 2007

Dinner

9/14ths (yes, very carefully measured) of a 12" Domino's thin and crispy crust pizza, half all dressed, half Hawaiian. Domino's menus combined with Excel say it was about 830 kcal in total. This was accompanied with two glasses of a very nice Merlot.

Afternoon snack

A Nature Valley Sweet & Salty chewy nut bar, 150 kcal, and a can of Perrier.

Lunch

Spanish paella - saffron rice with shrimp, sausage and chicken, with a can of Diet Pepsi, and NOT accompanied by a very delicious looking muffin the caterer brought as a little extra. Slightly large portion, followed closely by a double espresso (no milk).

Breakfast

A small bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch with 1% milk, and a spoonful of Lýsi.

Thursday, March 22, 2007

Dinner and a Movie

Dinner was a 1 1/2 egg, 1 1/2 egg-white omelet with skim mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and arugula, served with a green salad. At the movies I had a "medium" popcorn (similar to last week's "small" popcorn at a different theatre - about the same serving as microwave popcorn, I think) and some Diet Coke.

Afternoon snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Lunch

Smoked salmon sandwich on multigrain bread with lemon yogurt, tomatoes and scallion served with green salad, escorted down the hatch by Diet Pepsi.

Morning snack

Café au lait, 1% milk.

Breakfast

A café au lait and a bowl of oatmeal with flaxseed, four sprigs of redcurrants, and a bit of milk (all milk 1%).

Wednesday, March 21, 2007

Dinner

Apricot shredded pork sandwich on whole wheat bun, and a green salad lightly dressed in lemon vinaigrette. Somewhat large portion size. Same thing as yesterday because this is a slow-cooker recipe which means my wife makes lots at a time. Plus it's totally awesome so I actually want it multiple nights in a row :)

Lunch

1/2 roasted grain-fed chicken with thyme and lemon served on roasted root vegetables and sauteed rapini, accompanied by a lovely blue can of Diet Pepsi, and followed by a lovely white mug of café au lait, 1% milk.
